Hot Tub Time Machine might get a sequel

Look, I liked Hot Tub Time Machine, but even I think this is a little unnecessary.

Film Review Hot Tub Time Machine

According to The Hollywood Reporter, MGM is in “exploratory talks” with Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke – but not John Cusack – to reprise their roles in a sequel.

Prior to HTTM‘s release, the much-buzzed about script and descriptive title caught the internet’s imagination and looked set to become a massive box office hit.

But, it was more a case of Snakes on a Plane-itis for viewers, who mostly stayed away.

The $36 million production ultimately only grossed $64 worldwide, yet it blew up in the home entertainment market

Director Steve Pink is in talks to return for the sequel, and Corddry might wind up working on the script with him.

The storied studio has had a interesting few years. Though MGM filed for bankruptcy in 2010, they most recently bankrolled billion-dollar earner Skyfall and Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit.

And did we mention they’re remaking one of their biggest hits, Ben Hur?

Tellingly, Hot Tub Time Machine was the last movie produced before the studio went into bankruptcy.

Insiders warn THR that the deal-making “is in an early stage and could fail.”

As a fan of Corddry, Robinson, and Duke, I’ll just be happy for them to get some more work.
